I’ve spent more than 20 years at the cutting edge of the TV, broadband and digital media industries working in both small start-ups and large corporations.

Leaving university in 1990 with a BSc (Hons) in Computer Science, I then trained in print journalism and ended up news editing the leading European travel newspaper TTG Europa.

In the 1990s, I launched four cable TV channels in succession (Travel, Channel One, Live TV and Westminster Live). One (The Travel Channel) is still alive today on Sky. I also directed for the BBC, Channel 4 and produced GMTV.

In the 2000s, the world turned online. Virtue Broadcasting was the pioneer in internet broadcasting and, as Chief Operating Officer, I oversaw many of the world’s first broadcasts over this new IP network: Madonna live from the Brixton Academy, Paul McCartney live from The Tavern and Lennox Lewis fighting live in South Africa. Virtue was followed by a key role at internet startup number two: Bluebell Networks. As Commercial Operations Director I led supply negotiations with tour operators and sales deals with online outlets Expedia, Opodo, Lastminute and Lycos delivering and launching an award-winning travel web site.

Then it was time for an MBA. Imperial College London has a world-renowned business school that scores highly for innovation, technology exploitation and entrepreneurship. I spent a year there studying strategy, marketing, economics, accounting, finance, project management and remained on the Alumni Board for many years.

Immediately post-MBA I joined the UK’s leading telco, BT for four years and became Director of Technology Strategy and Development of the BT Vision TV business based on the Microsoft Mediaroom platform. Then I joined the Irish incumbent telco eircom as Director of TV and Entertainment for three years delivering a comprehensive three-screen TV strategy and business in this green-field site.
